Shops looking for AI customer service in Taiwan often see respond.io on recommendation lists, then ask us how it differs from FRIDAI. This article compares positioning, channels, AI setup, comment-to-DM, human handoff and cost, works through four shop sizes, and ends with a test checklist to run on both.
The verdict up front: which to try first
| Your situation | Try first | Why |
|---|---|---|
| One or two people, starting with one LINE or IG account | FRIDAI | From US$70 a month, one plan per account |
| Beauty, food or classes, with booking requests every day | FRIDAI | Every plan includes the booking system |
| Comments, DMs and posting in one brand's tools | FRIDAI | Chat, Social and Post products |
| You want to pay in NT$ | FRIDAI | PAYUNi and JKOPAY accepted |
| A team of five or more that needs routing and shifts | respond.io | Plans include several seats and route by role, online status and workload |
| Many channels, including TikTok, WeChat, Viber or SMS | respond.io | All on its official integrations list |
| Customers who go back and forth at length | Price both | Per-contact billing does well here, see the worked examples below |
What each product is built for
FRIDAI is an AI customer service and social automation service with three products: FRIDAI Chat handles DMs and human handoff, FRIDAI Social handles comment auto-replies and comment-to-DM, and FRIDAI Post handles automated posting. Teams maintain brand knowledge and reply rules in Traditional Chinese, and once that is set up, the AI takes the shift.
respond.io is a conversation management platform that pulls every channel into one inbox. Its site centers on lead conversion and customer service, with a team inbox, workflows, broadcasts and AI Agents. Its AI Agents page says the main audience is mid-market B2C businesses handling 500 or more conversations a month.

Channels: both have LINE, the difference is at the edges
Both connect LINE Official Accounts, Messenger, Instagram, WhatsApp, Telegram and website chat. respond.io's integrations list adds TikTok (Beta), WeChat, Viber and SMS. FRIDAI adds DMs on Threads and Discord, and handles comments on Threads, YouTube and LinkedIn.
LINE is the channel small Taiwan shops care about most, and both connect only to Official Accounts. respond.io's LINE page says a contact must message your Official Account before you can reply or broadcast to them, and each customer message appears both in respond.io and in the LINE Official Account app.
Quick tip: count last month's messages on each channel before you read this table again. You will see quickly which channels you actually need.
AI setup: writing rules or connecting sources
With FRIDAI, you write products, prices, service steps and brand voice into the knowledge base in natural language, then add reply rules: what the situation is, what to ask first, when to quote, when to hand off to a person. A one-click scan of posts, comments, DMs, websites and documents can produce a first version of the knowledge base.
respond.io's AI Agents answer from knowledge sources you approve. It lists websites, product PDFs, Google Docs and CSV tables, and website sources re-sync on a schedule. It also says that when an answer is not in the sources, the agent hands the conversation to a person. AI Agents are listed on Growth and above; Starter offers AI Prompt and AI Assist, tools that help people reply.
On Traditional Chinese: FRIDAI's knowledge and rules are maintained in it directly, and it detects the customer's language and replies in kind, across 100+ languages. respond.io's website has a Traditional Chinese version, and its AI Agents page lists 30+ languages for voice calls. For text chat in Chinese, the most accurate check is to run five real messages from Taiwan customers.
Comment-to-DM and social engagement
Small shops often rely on post comments for leads, so this part deserves a close look.
FRIDAI Social auto-replies to comments on Instagram, Facebook and Threads and brings comments into DMs. For the DM step, the same account needs both Social and Chat plans, since Chat handles DMs. Social also helps monitor YouTube, TikTok, LinkedIn and X, and alerts you when someone asks for a price or a keyword is mentioned.
respond.io's Instagram page says it can auto-reply to DMs, comments and ad inquiries. Its help center describes Auto Private Replies, which sends a private message after someone comments, on all content or on chosen posts and Reels. The stated rules: one private message per comment, sent within 7 days of the comment, and IGTV comments are not supported.
Human handoff and team collaboration
Every FRIDAI plan includes human collaboration and human review. When a person is needed, the official FRIDAI LINE account alerts you, sensitive replies can be reviewed before sending, and the AI steps aside once a person takes over. A solo owner can catch those alerts in LINE on a phone.
respond.io's strength is team workflow. It says conversations can route to human teams by role, online status or workload, escalate when they need judgment or negotiation, and any teammate can take over at any time. Plans include 5 to 10 seats, which is useful when several agents share shifts and routing.
How to compare the cost: start with the billing unit
| Item | FRIDAI Chat | respond.io |
|---|---|---|
| Public monthly price | US$70 / 160 / 300 | Starter US$99, Growth US$199, Advanced US$349, Enterprise by quote |
| Annual billing | 2 months free (US$58 / 133 / 250 a month) | Save up to 20% (US$79 / 159 / 279 a month) |
| Included volume | 500 / 2,000 / 5,000 AI replies, one plan per platform account | 1,000 monthly active contacts by default on Growth and Advanced; unlimited on Starter |
| Seats | Not priced by seat on the price list | 5 / 10 / 10 seats, extra seats US$12 / 20 / 24 per user a month |
| Going over | Plan allowance, with upgrades available | Growth US$12 and Advanced US$15 per 100 contacts; AI credits US$15 per 1,000, capped at 2x the allowance |
| Trial | US$1 for 30 days (NT$30 via PAYUNi or JKOPAY), up to 100 replies, converts to your chosen plan unless cancelled | 7 days free, no card, Growth features without broadcasts |
| Payment | USD by card; NT$ via PAYUNi or JKOPAY (at NT$32 per US$) | Major credit cards; bank transfer for high volume |
| Billed separately | Official messaging fees from LINE and other platforms | WhatsApp fees not included; LINE plan fees separate |
A monthly active contact at respond.io is someone who messages you, or whom you start a conversation with, in that month, and they count once however long they chat. FRIDAI counts AI replies, so each side needs pricing with your own volume rather than a straight comparison of monthly fees.
The message volumes in these four examples are assumptions, and the prices are each vendor's monthly list price. They show how to do the math:
| Assumed situation | FRIDAI Chat | respond.io (with AI Agents) |
|---|---|---|
| One LINE account, 300 customers, 450 AI replies | Launch US$70 | Growth US$199 |
| One IG account, 800 customers, 1,800 AI replies | Essential US$160 | Growth US$199 |
| LINE, IG and FB accounts, 300 replies each, 600 customers | Three Launch plans US$210 | Growth US$199 |
| One account, 1,500 customers, 4,000 AI replies | Enterprise US$300 | Growth US$199 plus 5 overage blocks US$60, total US$259 |
A pattern shows up: with a small shop and few accounts, FRIDAI starts much lower. With many accounts and long conversations, per-contact billing gets its advantage. For the full method, see how AI customer service pricing works. LINE-only shops can go straight to cost per reply for a LINE-only shop.
One test checklist, run once on each
Both offer trials. The respond.io trial runs 7 days, so prepare your materials before you start it to get the most out of the time.
Step 1: prepare the same materials
Prepare a price or product list, opening hours, return or cancellation rules, and five real customer messages with personal details removed. Put the same content in both.
Step 2: run the same conversations
Scenario 1: LINE asks "how much is this" without naming the item
Scenario 2: Three messages in casual Taiwan Mandarin before the need is clear
Scenario 3: Phone number in one message, a booking change in the next
Scenario 4: An IG comment says "interested" and should trigger a DM
Scenario 5: A question your materials do not cover
Scenario 6: A request for more discount than your public offer
Scenario 7: "I want a real person", then a follow-up question the next dayStep 3: score on the same sheet
| What to record | How to judge it | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Natural Chinese | Does it read like a Taiwan shop replying? | Customers feel this first |
| Correct answers | Does it match your materials? | A wrong answer costs more than a slow one |
| When it does not know | Does it hand off rather than make things up? | Decides whether you can let go |
| Handoff quality | Can the person see the context and reason? | Affects takeover speed |
| Editing cost | How long to change a price, and who can? | Happens weekly after launch |
| Full monthly cost | Plan, seats, overage and platform fees together | Run it for a peak month too |
Choose by what you need
- If several agents share routing and shifts, your channels include TikTok, WeChat, Viber or SMS, or customers chat at length and active contacts stay steady → look at respond.io and run its 7-day trial.
- If you want to start with one account, write rules in Traditional Chinese, have AI handle DMs, comments and bookings, pay in NT$, and get a LINE alert when a person is needed → try FRIDAI first.
Summary: count accounts and customers before comparing fees
A quick note from FRIDAI
We just put both tools into a small Taiwan shop's situation, and most of the difference comes down to how you are billed and who uses it~
- Count three numbers: accounts, monthly active customers and AI replies.
- One or two accounts with one or two people → try FRIDAI first, from US$70 a month.
- A larger team, many channels and long conversations → price respond.io as well.
- Run the seven scenarios on the same materials, and watch the Chinese and the handoff closely.

FAQ
How much does respond.io cost per month?
Its pricing page lists Starter at US$99, Growth at US$199 and Advanced at US$349 billed monthly, or about US$79, US$159 and US$279 a month billed annually, with Enterprise by quote. Growth and Advanced include 1,000 monthly active contacts by default, and AI Agents start on Growth.
How does respond.io count monthly active contacts?
A contact who messages or calls you in the billing month, or whom you start a conversation with, counts as one monthly active contact however much they chat. Past the limit, Growth bills US$12 and Advanced US$15 per 100 contacts.
Does respond.io support LINE?
Yes, for LINE Official Accounts only. A contact must message your Official Account before you can reply or broadcast to them, and customer messages appear both in respond.io and in the LINE Official Account app. LINE plan fees are separate.
Is FRIDAI cheaper than respond.io?
For a shop with one or two accounts, FRIDAI starts lower: Chat plans are from US$70 a month, while respond.io's Growth plan with AI Agents is US$199 billed monthly. With many accounts or long conversations, price both with your own volume.
I am looking for a respond.io alternative. Can FRIDAI replace it?
If your main uses are DM customer service, comment replies, bookings and human handoff, FRIDAI is built for those, and you can test it with the same conversations. If your main use is routing and shifts for several agents, or you need WeChat, Viber or SMS, stay with a platform built around a team inbox.
Can I use both?
Yes, by splitting channels so each tool handles its own. Let only one tool auto-reply on any given account so replies do not double up or go missing, and confirm the connection with both vendors first.
Does FRIDAI have a free trial?
FRIDAI offers a 30-day trial for US$1 (NT$30 via PAYUNi or JKOPAY) with no contract and up to 100 replies. When the 30 days or the allowance runs out, it converts to the plan you chose unless you cancel before then.
How FRIDAI can help
If your daily problem is more LINE, IG and FB DMs than you can answer, and you want to write your rules clearly in Traditional Chinese, start by connecting one account to FRIDAI Chat and run all seven scenarios above. To bring comments into DMs, add FRIDAI Social.
