What is an AI customer service platform? Sort into three types before comparing
The things sold as "AI customer service" are really three different kinds of tool. Get the type wrong, and every finer comparison afterwards is wasted.
| Type | Main arena | Representative products |
|---|---|---|
| DM-based AI customer service | Social DMs on LINE, IG, FB and more | FRIDAI, SleekFlow, respond.io |
| Conversational commerce platform | LINE membership, marketing journeys, stores | Crescendo Lab, Omnichat |
| Ticketing-based support system | Website, app, email, tickets | Intercom, Zendesk |
Raccoon AI is a slightly special case. Its official plans page states that it is meant to be connected to an existing CRM or support system, which makes it more like an AI layer sitting on top of the support system you already have. So we put it in the "already have a support system, want to add AI" box.
The 30-second check: which type should you look at first?
This chart does one thing: it removes the half you do not need to look at. A booking-based beauty business and a SaaS company are both shopping for AI customer service, but the first one's finish line is collecting the date, service and phone number and handing to a person to confirm, while the second's is solving a how-to question or opening a ticket. They were never meant to be scored the same way.
The shortlist: channels, prices and trials for eight tools
Every price in the table below comes from the brand's own official pricing page, and most are shown in US dollars. Where no amount is published, the table says "quote required".
| Product | LINE support | Public price | Billing unit | Trial |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| FRIDAI | Yes, LINE Official Account | US$70 / 160 / 300 billed monthly | AI replies per month, one plan per platform account | US$1 for 30 days |
| Crescendo Lab CAAC | Yes | No amounts published for any of four plans | Monthly active contacts | Not stated on pricing page |
| Omnichat | Yes | Quote required, annual subscription only | Valid contacts and number of agents | 14-day free trial |
| Raccoon AI | Not itemised on plans page | Quote required | Tiered by average monthly conversation volume | Activated with a consultant |
| SleekFlow | Yes, LINE Business | From US$49/ | Monthly active contacts, seats can be added | Free trial available |
| respond.io | Yes | US$79 / 159 / 279 billed yearly | Monthly active contacts and AI credits | 7-day free trial |
| Intercom | Not listed on pricing page | US$29 / 85 / 132 per seat | Seats, plus Fin from US$0.99 per outcome | 14-day free trial |
| Zendesk | Not listed on pricing page | From US$19 per agent billed yearly | Seats, plus AI automated resolutions | 14-day free trial |
The amounts in the table show the billing structure; check each vendor's official page for the latest prices before you buy. A few details that are easy to miss:
- FRIDAI's three plans correspond to 500, 2,000 and 5,000 AI replies a month; connecting both IG and LINE means two plans. You can pay in US dollars by card, or in New Taiwan dollars through PAYUNi or JKOPAY.
- Omnichat notes that plan fees do not include LINE API or WhatsApp Business API message fees.
- respond.io's AI Agents are only available from the Growth plan up, and WhatsApp fees are billed separately.
- Zendesk's Suite Team is US$55 per agent billed yearly. AI agents are charged only for requests "resolved without being passed to a human", from US$1.50 each once the included allowance is used up. New Taiwan dollars are not among the official billing currencies.
- Crescendo Lab's official blog separately introduces CAAC Go, a lightweight version that starts free and is positioned for small websites and one-person teams, with paid upgrades shown as US$29 and US$79. Confirm the interface language and the limits with the vendor first.
Choosing by situation: small shop, e-commerce, multi-store and enterprise
| Your situation | Try first | Why |
|---|---|---|
| One person or a small team, customers all in LINE and IG DMs | FRIDAI, SleekFlow | Public monthly fees; you can start small |
| Booking-based service business that collects details then hands to a person | FRIDAI | Every plan includes bookings and human collaboration |
| E-commerce brand focused on LINE membership and marketing journeys | Crescendo Lab, Omnichat | Marketing, support and customer data in one system |
| Multi-store retail that tracks store and salesperson revenue | Omnichat | Officially features OMO online-offline integration |
| Already on Zendesk or similar, only want to add AI | Raccoon AI | Works as an extension of the existing platform |
| Several departments, high cross-channel volume and assignment | respond.io | Many channels; scales by active contacts |
| Product support for SaaS, a website or an app | Intercom | Built around live chat and in-product messaging |
| Formal ticketing process and support centre governance | Zendesk | Complete ticketing, routing and reporting |
Choose by need: if segmented broadcasts to LINE members and revenue attribution by store matter most, look at CRM and online-offline platforms such as Crescendo Lab and Omnichat; if you need formal ticketing and SLA management, look at a ticketing system such as Zendesk; if you want one AI to handle DM replies, comment engagement and content scheduling across LINE, IG and Facebook, choose FRIDAI.
Six criteria for choosing an AI customer service platform
| Criterion | Question to ask the vendor | How to verify it yourself |
|---|---|---|
| Channels | Is the platform where 80% of my customers are connected through an officially authorised integration? | List message entry points for the last 30 days and compare |
| AI rules | Can it ask only for the missing information and stop at an exception? | Test with the same set of conversations |
| Human handoff | Does the AI stop after takeover? Can the human see the history? | Send one more message after takeover |
| Knowledge updates | How long until a price or promotion change takes effect? Who can change it? | Change one item on the spot and ask again |
| Billing unit | Which one thing makes the bill grow? | Run a normal month and a peak-season month |
| Permissions and reports | Who can view conversations, export, and change rules? | Open a restricted account and try it |
Supporting a dozen platforms does not automatically earn points. If 80% of your customers are on LINE, then the LINE integration, message history and handoff are your core, and everything else is decoration.
Reading the cost: the monthly fee is only one box
The eight tools use at least five billing units: a fixed monthly fee with a reply allowance, monthly active contacts, seats, AI credits, and a charge each time the AI resolves something. A low starting price does not mean a low total. A shop with many customers should be wary of contact-based billing; a team with many agents should be wary of seat-based billing.
FRIDAI Editorial suggests splitting the bill into four boxes before comparing: platform fee, human seats or contact fee, AI usage fee, and channel message fee. The full method, the estimating steps and the usual underestimates are all in the AI customer service pricing guide.
A change to watch in 2026: LINE Official Account prices rise in November
LINE has officially announced that the new price plans for LINE Official Accounts are scheduled to take effect on 1 November 2026. The mid-volume plan's monthly fee goes from NT$800 to NT$1,000, the high-volume plan from NT$1,200 to NT$1,400, and the light plan stays at NT$0. Each plan's free monthly messages, 200, 3,000 and 6,000, are unchanged. All amounts are before tax.
This money is paid to LINE and has nothing to do with which AI customer service platform you choose, but many people leave it out of their estimate. For which messages count toward the total and which plan your usage falls into, read LINE's own explanation directly, then add it to the "channel message fee" box from the previous section.
Trial checklist: the same questions, set to every tool
For an inspectable response record, use FRIDAI's eight-case public evaluation and fixed inputs. This first-party synthetic preview evaluation preserves all eight responses, with seven meeting the criteria and one partially meeting them, plus a downloadable notebook and scoring worksheet. Use these inputs to assess response content; verify the notification, human takeover and stop conditions below separately on authorized channels.
Product decks all look good. The exam is where you find out. Paste the eight questions below, unchanged, into each trial account:
| Test question | What to look at | Pass mark |
|---|---|---|
| Ask something the knowledge covers | Accuracy | Correct, with nothing invented |
| Ask something the knowledge does not cover | Whether it makes things up | Says it does not know or hands off |
| Give all the booking details at once | Flow | No repeated questions |
| Leave one item out on purpose | Follow-up | Asks only for the missing item |
| Give a phone number, then change the date later | Memory of earlier messages | No need to give the phone number again |
| Ask for an exception discount or a refund | Boundaries | Makes no promise on its own |
| Say "I want to talk to a person" | Handoff | Notifies immediately, with the history |
| Send another message after a human takes over | Stopping | The AI does not cut in again |
For each question record only four things: answered correctly, asked correctly, handed off correctly, stopped correctly. Run two tools for one to two weeks each, and do not change the knowledge or the rules during that time, or by the end even you will not know what the difference was.
Summary: sort by type, then shortlist two
A quick note from FRIDAI
Order matters when you choose an AI customer service platform: start with where your customers come from, then what you need the tool to finish. DM-based tools, conversational commerce platforms and ticketing systems each have their home ground. Sort by type, compare channels, rules, handoff and billing with one yardstick, and you'll get to a shortlist of two quickly.
When you compare, take these four steps:
- List your message entry points from the last 30 days and find the platform where most customers are.
- Ask vendors the six criteria: channels, AI rules, human handoff, knowledge updates, billing unit, permissions and reporting.
- Split the bill into platform, seats or contacts, AI usage and channel message fees, and include LINE's November price change.
- Run the same eight-question trial checklist on both tools for one to two weeks, without changing knowledge or rules in between.
Pick one high-frequency question and put it through the trial checklist. Once both tools have run it, the choice is clear ☺️
FAQ
Are there free AI customer service platforms?
Long-term free ones are rare; most offer a time-limited trial. Omnichat, Intercom and Zendesk give 14 days, respond.io gives 7, and FRIDAI is a US$1 trial for 30 days with up to 100 replies. Use the free period to set the exam, not just to browse the interface.
How much does AI customer service cost per month?
Among those with public prices, entry level falls at roughly a few dozen to a little over a hundred US dollars a month, for example SleekFlow from US$49, FRIDAI US$70, and respond.io US$79 billed yearly. The real bill also adds contacts, seats, AI usage and LINE message fees.
Can AI customer service be used on LINE?
Yes, but first confirm that the product has a formal integration with LINE Official Account. Of the tools in this article, FRIDAI, Crescendo Lab, Omnichat, SleekFlow and respond.io all officially list LINE. The Intercom and Zendesk pricing pages do not, so ask clearly before relying on it.
Will AI customer service make things up?
Made-up answers come mostly from out-of-date knowledge or rules without boundaries. To keep them rare, restrict the AI to answering only from content you provide, set prices and refunds to require a human, and run one full round of the trial checklist before going live.
Do I need an engineer to roll out AI customer service?
Most products connect social accounts without code, but someone has to own organising the knowledge and writing the rules. Connecting orders, membership or an existing support system usually needs the vendor's consultant or engineering help, so count that time as part of the cost.
Can AI customer service fully replace people?
The steadiest design splits the work: give repetitive questions with clear rules to the AI, and keep exceptions, complaints and anything that requires a commitment with people. When choosing a tool, how smooth the handoff is matters more than how fast the reply is.
How FRIDAI can help
If your customers mostly find you through LINE, Instagram or Facebook DMs, FRIDAI Chat can link brand knowledge, reply rules, information collection and human handoff into one workflow. FRIDAI Editorial suggests picking one high-frequency question and setting it the trial checklist above. Once DMs run smoothly, bring comment engagement and content scheduling into the same workflow.
